When in use, scaffold boards are often subjected to harsh conditions and mistreatment and may deteriorate to such an extent that they become unsafe. This guidance explains the differences between ‘supplementary’ and ‘check’ couplers and gives typical design applications where high coupler forces could be expected and where additional loadbearing capacity to connections may be required. It also contains guidance on coupler configurations and expected safe working loads (SWLs) where supplementary couplers are used.
