TG20:08 Toolbox Kit Launched
The UK is undoubtedly starting to embrace the new scaffolding guidance produced by the NASC (National Access and Scaffolding Confederation), TG20:08 ‘Guide to good practice for scaffolding with tubes and fittings’. Main contractors are now starting to stipulate that tube and fitting scaffolds are designed in accordance with TG20:08 ensuring compliance with BS EN12811-1 on their sites.
Following the successful launch of TG20:08 and as part of the NASC’s rolling programme to educate the scaffolding industry in the changes and to help accelerate the understanding a Toolbox Talk booklet and a PowerPoint presentation are now available.
The TG20:08 Toolbox Talk presentation has been developed to ensure site operatives have been informed and trained on the fundamental differences to 'Basic' scaffold design according to TG20:08 (as opposed to previously BS5973). This simple but effective PowerPoint presentation is ideal for use by Site Managers and Staff who carry out Toolbox talks. The presentation has been designed to last no longer than 20 minutes.
The presentation covers the specific changes to Load Classes/Duty, Boarded Lifts, Façade/Sway Bracing, Plan Bracing, Ties, Building façades and the responsibilities of Employers & Management.
The presentation is free to download from the NASC website, www.nasc.org.uk
The Toolbox Talk pocket booklet is a handy A6 publication (which can be read in conjunction with the presentation) enabling all site operatives to understand on a daily basis the changes they should be implementing.
Priced at just £2.50 for non-members (including post and packing) the booklet provides excellent value. The NASC would encourage all scaffolders to have one of these booklets to hand every day on site to maintain compliance.
(This booklet follows on from the highly successful SG4:You pocket booklet which has been widely circulated through out the scaffolding industry. To date nearly 60,000 copies have been sold in the UK)
