Today the Access and Scaffolding Industry offers excellent career prospects and an integral part of the NASC strategy is to encourage more motivated, young people to take a positive view of the industry and join its ranks. This means ensuring that careers officers and parents have a better understanding of the opportunities offered by NASC members, as well as communicating this message to school-leavers and graduates. The NASC also works closely with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to improve the standards of training and encourage new recruitment. The NASC publishes regular technical and safety guidance notes to ensure members always have access to the very latest information. The Confederation also produces a variety of other vital information including an annual NASC Safety Report, regular newsletters, and Health and Safety newsletters. The NASC has established five regional committees covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In addition, the Confederation has standing committees working on a national basis for the benefit of the Industry as a whole. These include: Contracts Committee - provides expert advice and guidance notes for members on contractual issues including general terms and conditions, payment issues and evaluation of the relevant regulations. Health & Safety Committee - whose regular dialogue with HSE has enabled standards to be consistently improved and evaluated. Hire & Sales and Manufacturing Committee - are working on revisions to the model conditions used by the Industry. Marketing Committee - who have been responsible for developing the new integrated marketing approach to date and will now help implement the campaign on a long term basis. Security Committee - acts as a highly effective liaison between the Confederation and the nominated police contact officers in 50+ forces throughout the UK who will respond to NASC contacts in each region. Every police control room has 24 hour Helpline posters, providing details of NASC members who will respond to police requests for assistance with identification of scaffolding plant and equipment, proof of ownership, transport, storage etc. Technical Committee - provides invaluable representation from all the major players in the industry. Engineers provide the best advice and technical support, contribute to codes of practice, regulations and product evaluation - helping the NASC to issue regular guidance notes to all members. ACCESS AND SCAFFOLDING INDUSTRY TRAINING ORGANISATION - is the focal point for the Industry on all training matters, including the Record Scheme and NVQ/SVQ.
