ASbestos - The hidden killer

On average, 20 tradesmen die from exposure to asbestos every week. That’s about a quarter of the 4,000 people who die every year from exposure to asbestos.

In partnership with the HSE, the NASC are committed to raising awareness about the dangers of working with asbestos across the scaffolding community.

Asbestos is the single greatest cause of work-related deaths in the UK

The supply and use of asbestos was completely banned in 1999, but any building built or refurbished before this date COULD CONTAIN ASBESTOS.

It is estimated that about half a million commercial premises in the UK may still contain asbestos

The Law

Asbestos training is a legal requirement – anyone liable to disturb asbestos while carrying out their normal everyday work or who may influence how work is carried out needs asbestos awareness training; those who undertake planned work that will knowingly disturb asbestos need training for non-licensable asbestos work.
